I haven’t done a screencast in ages! (Yet alone a photoshop one). But the other day I got an email from Pang who asked whether I could make a screencast to demonstrate how to recreate the sun beams effect that I used in an old wallpaper. I was all too happy to oblige so here’s the screencast, it’s in .h264 so you’ll need QT7 or VLC to view it.

My third Symphony screencast looks at how data sources can be made more flexible and robust through the use of variables when filtering. In this case we make a dynamic Category list page using a URL schema and 2 data sources. The screencast covers URL schema's, custom fields and data sources. As always I attempt to explain code in as simple a way as possible and illustrate certain concepts at the beginning in order to ensure new users are comfortable with the way certain things work.

My second Symphony screencast, aimed squarely at people new to the system, looks at how one might make a simple product page. The screencast covers sections, custom fields and data sources and then shows you can ties all those elements together in a page. Code is fully explained and is written a simple manner that those with little XSLT knowledge can get to grips.

So this is my first Symphony screencast, which as the title suggests shows how to create a side blog using the new sections feature in symphony. It also covers utilities and provides a good example of their use for re-usable code.
You can download the screencast by right clicking the link below and choosing "save as".

This tutorial shows how to make a vinyl record simply and quickly. I find these are great for use in wallpapers, websites and that sort of thing. Oh and I realise at the start of the tutorial I actually call it a CD, I was a little slow when I recorded it this morning!
I hope you find it useful and if you have suggestions or requests then please comment or get in touch with me through my contact form.

This tutorial shows how to make a Polaroid image that looks as though it's been bent slightly and left on a surface, it's one of my favourite effects as it can make images look a bit more interesting when used correctly. It ends slightly abruptly (slightly aggressive trimming on my part) but it's all there.
Feedback and comments are always welcome and I hope you find it helpful.

Update
It seems in some players there's a bug where the video stops playing just before the final step at the end where the drop shadow is added. I've uploaded a zip file with a brief explanation and some pictures so hopefully that will be enough for those of you experiencing the problem. Sorry!!!

This tutorial is a real quicky in response to an email I got a few days ago. Basically the person asked how to make an image that was black and white but which had a some part of it in it's original colours. This video basically shows a super easy way of accomplishing just that whilst still allowing full control over editing.
Feedback and comments are always welcome and I hope you find it helpful.

This tutorial basically shows how to fade from one piece of text to another, but the same principle applies to anything else you would want to animate such as a change of colour or a moving image.

So I've been focusing on answering some of the requests I've had from friends and visitors about producing certain effects with Photoshop and this time the subject is glass. Specifically a layer-style that looks glassy but more importantly looks as if it is refracting light.
In the video because the layer-style I use has quite a lot of settings in it it would've taken too long to show in the video so instead the layer-style is included with the zip file. I go through importing and applying layer-styles in the video and then finish up with producing the effect that the glass is refracting light.

So this is a really simple technique to make an abstract wallpaper which seem to be at the height of popularity right now! Creating those soft washes of colour that blend into each other is really simple to do and it all starts by just slapping paint onto a canvas in a very casual fashion. Feedback is always welcome!

I got a few e-mails some time ago about how I created the reflection in one of my previous walls and I never could answer properly since the best way is to show it through video. So now that I can record video I figured I would record a super quick vid that shows how to do it.
The video is only two minutes in length (yes it's that easy to do) and is only a 2mb or so to download.
