WWDC '07 Over
June 11, 2007
Well the WWDC 07’ is over, meaning I can finally stop watching a multitude of websites updating every 20 seconds. All in all it was pretty much what everyone had come to expect aside from maybe the last 2 things mentioned.
Firstly, the iPhone will support 3rd party apps, but not in the way everyone though it might (using SDK’s), no, instead developers are being encouraged to write web 2.0 apps that can run within safari, yet still access all of the iPhones features.
The other surprise announcement was Safari. Version 3 (shipping with Leopard) is also going to run on Vista and XP, with beta’s being available from today. They showed some benchmarks that seemed to suggest it was pretty nippy and faster than the other browsers (IE and Firefox) on the platform so it certainly looks like it could do well. Though maybe not with the same amount of success as Firefox, but then again we’ll have to see.
Now where’s the keynote video so I can actually see some of this stuff in action…..
Update I’ve found it quite funny that a couple of people (saying no names) have already complained about having another browser to worry about but that’s not really the case is it? It’s the same as Safari on the mac, just available on windows.
Update 2 The Safari 3 beta is available on the mac too!!! I’ve already installed it, hopefully it’ll be a little faster than Safari 2. Oh and Apple has finally redesigned their site and it’s full of leopard goodness.
Update 3 Loving the safari beta, quick, some nice new features, but please Apple for the love of all things; well…Apple, put a button in Safari to open new tabs so I don’t have to get a third party app to do it!!!
