Vista's Failures
April 20, 2006
I’ve followed Vista with great anticipation since hearing of it’s many great promises a year or two ago. All of the new features it was adding, what was being re-written etc etc. Then during that time I got my hands on my first mac, an iBook, and came to appreciate the quality of Mac OS X, so much so that I pre-ordered Tiger on it’s release which is something I tend not to do in favour of waiting for bugs to be ironed out.
Now a year later Vista has been set back yet again and will no longer ship in volume until 2007 apparently and looking at it, it doesn’t seem nearly as revolutionary as it once did. The main reason for that being Apple’s Tiger bringing many of the promised features to market well over a year earlier.
Through this time Paul Thurrot has certainly been a great source of information on Vista, providing frequent reviews/insights and quite thorough testing. Though at times I’ve questioned his objectivity in his most recent article he picks apart so many of the niggles that I have and does it in just the right manner. It’s refreshing to see someone who is clearly a keen windows user accept and comment on such matters and as such I now have a much greater appreciation for much of what he’s written both in the past and the present.
