Showtime - iTunes 7

September 12th, 2006

itunesAmongst all of the new store announcements and iPod refreshers iTunes 7 was also released today. It now boasts:

  • A revised folder list, now called the Source List
  • Now automatically grabs CD covers from the iTunes music store (YES!!!!!!!)
  • New views - Grouped by album cover and Coverflow (NOT a rip, Coverflow was purchased by Apple)
  • Burning a disk gives the option to create CD covers from the included tracks
  • Backup feature to keep your Library safe
  • New improved interface to manage your iPod, does away with iPod updater software too!
  • Reverse sync! Now allows you to sync songs from your iPod back onto another authorised computer. (Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!!)

With the exception of ripping off the cover flow concept (although it's integrated quite nicely) I do like the other new view very much and I'm using it as my default on most of my playlists right now (though some need fixing up with the right meta data). Also, now being able organise all of my media inside on application is a huge plus AND video playback is far better than in previous versions of iTunes so I won't even need Quicktime as much now! This is coupled with a gorgeous new interface for interacting with you video. (See my pictures page )

All in all a great bunch of announcements from Apple which may even tempt me to part with some of my hard earned cash...

Excellent little update.

The album cover view is by far the best new addition. Looking forward to getting my macbook back from repair!!

I'd love a Macbook, I'm very eager to move to the Intel platform. I'm looking at picking up an Intel iMac when I have the money, probably a 20' but 'd prefer the 24' of course :p

Yeah my macbook was fantastic until the hard disk decided to unmount itself. Im posting the progress of my repair here >>> http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=17624015.

I am looking at the imac as a desktop solution too but that will have to wait till ive moved house and saved a fair bit!

I'm sure you've read by now, but Apple didn't just rip the CoverFlow guys, they actually purchased the software and "intellectual property". Probably a good thing for them since it was a freeware app ;)

I <3 my MacBook

I've been busy playing with AA 2.7 so I wasn't actually aware of that Clayton! Thanks, I shall update the post accordingly.
