iTunes Plus

May 31, 2007

itunesThe iTunes store finally got it’s update yesterday and is now officially selling DRM-free music from EMI. Unfortunately the launch wasn’t perfect as iTunes succumbed to technical difficulties and a traffic crunch.

I did however manage to go through the process of updating my library and my Mum got hers done as well. I’ve been quite fascinated by the number of people that have said they’re having problems, either with the iTunes store not seeing all of their bought tracks or even with the new iTunes 7.2 not starting up correctly. My experience (and also my Mums) was excellent, it found all of the relevant music, downloaded all of the new files (albeit a tad slowly toward the end) and then deleted the old ones.

I should also point out that the sound quality is noticeably better! In fact it’s caused me to re-rip some parts of my library at 256kb VBR AAC (as opposed to 192 which I used a while back).
