iPod Nano

October 24, 2006

ipod NanoSo I’ve had my new Nano (in a vibrant red colour) for a couple of days now and I have to say it’s simply superb. The last iPod I bought was an iPod Mini (Silver) way back in 2004 so naturally I appreciate the changes more than most!

Firstly the size… it is unbelievably tiny so tiny in fact that when it’s in my pocket I have to keep checking it’s still there. I love the fact it’s so slim though because when biking, I often found my old iPod would dig into my leg a bit and this doesn’t happen anymore now.

The sound quality is as good as ever, if not better and the new headphones included with the Nano are a great improvement over the previous ones, offering better sound quality and also improved comfort.

Pictures, the Nano with it’s remarkably crisp colour screen, also allows you to drop pictures on your iPod. Sadly you can’t output these to a TV like you can with it’s big brother, the video iPod. But for flicking through some pics it’s not bad though definitely not a major feature as the screen is just a bit too small.

I do like little touches such as being able to set background music and even transitions to slideshows.

The search feature is, in a word, ace! When I first heard about it and saw it in the announcement a little while back I didn’t think it would be very practical or very quick for that matter but with a few minutes practice I found I could perform searches remarkably quickly.

Finally the iTunes7 software makes syncing a cinch, in particular I was impressed that when syncing pictures they’re automatically scaled to size for the Nano in order to save disk space.

It’s the little things I love, and I certainly love this! Go forth and buy one now, no really, go on!
