Fluxiom Released
April 21, 2006
Fluxiom has been hovering around on my radar for some time now, since the day the preview movie was put up on their site in fact. The thought that I could potentially have access to my images and PSDs at any computer and could better still easily share them was something I liked very much.
So yesterday Fluxiom was released and I was straight in there to get an account since there’s a 30 days free trial available. Sign-up was quick, simple and in less than 5 minutes I was logged into my Fluxiom account. There I was greeted with a great interface that takes up little space on the screen yet still retains lots of great functionality through the use of those scriptaculous powered sliding drawers. In fact the only thing I didn’t really like about the UI was the button to add tags. It’s way over on the right with no obvious labelling and it took me a few minutes of clicking to finally get there.
There are lots of nice touches such as:
- Being able to select multiple items by dragging a selection around them
- When downloading multiple items they’re compressed into a zip which makes transfers much quicker
- If you want to upload a big batch of images you can make a zip file of them and fluxiom will extract all of them from the file after you upload.
If anything my only niggle is price. The Basic Package where you get unlimited users etc is €29 which, for me, seems a little high. €25 would be better and €20 would have me sold in a heartbear. There is the Private package for a mere €9 a month which does get the job done but only having one user is quite limiting and something that I’m not really interested in. Disk space could also be a little higher but all in all it’s still pretty good.
Final Conclusion?? Well it’s a superbly made application that has a great UI, good feature set and for me is only faulted by the price (though in 30 days time I might just decide it’s worth it!)
