Aperture 1.5
September 25th, 2006
So Aperture version 1.5 was announced today and it has a myriad of great new features. They've finally opened up the library structure so you're no longer tied to a closed file system. This was one of the biggest annoyances I had with Aperture and despite the the clamour from numerous Aperture users over this the deciding factor for Apple about whether to do it or not clearly must be Lightroom. The "competition" from Adobe which has had this feature from the start. Along with this a new management system has been added to make managing your images across multiple storage spaces a cinch.
Also, Aperture now runs on all macs, from the mini to the mac pro it just works. It bewilders me why they decided to do this now instead of from the beginning but at least it's finally happened.
Other new features include:
- Seamless Integration with iLife ’06 and iWork ’06
- Advanced Color Controls
- Adjustment Presets
- A Loupe...with Onscreen Controls
- And Edge sharpen for sharpening images
All in all it's a very nice update and means I might even have to reinstall Aperture on my system to check it out!! The update is released later this week...
